Refconnect has created this Privacy Notice to respect your privacy and explain how we collect, use and protect the information you share with us.
Every time you use our Site, the latest version of this Privacy Notice will apply. Therefore, you should always check the date at the top of this notice to see if there have been any updates since your last visit. This Privacy Notice applies to all users of our Site.
The Information We Collect:
When you use Refconnect to reconnect with family, we collect only the information necessary to facilitate this process:
- The individuals who submit a message to our platform provides their name, nationality, sex assigned at birth, country they were displaced from, contact details and the content of their message in the form of a voice recorded submitted via Zoho Forms.
- Once a message is uploaded to our platform, family members may use filters to narrow down the search and increase the relevancy of potential matches. However, none of these filters are by date of birth, or any other highly confidential information, except for the person’s name.
We do not collect sensitive personal data and we will only use the information you share for the purpose of facilitating reunification.
How We Use the Information We Collect:
We use the information we collect to:
- Upload and store messages securely on our platform to help reunite individuals with their family members.
- Allow family members to filter messages to increase the accuracy of their search.
- Notify the individual who uploaded the message when a potential match is found.
None of the personal information or data you share with us is sold, rented, or shared with third parties.
How We Maintain Privacy Throughout the Reconnection Process:
Our platform acts as an intermediary for initial contact and message sharing, but all communication after a loved one has been found happens outside our platform and is fully private.
Once a potential loved ones is found, we will notify the individual who uploaded the message. At this point, the two individuals are free to communicate directly with each other using a preferred, trusted messaging platform of their choice. That is, all communication occurs externally, and Refconnect does not monitor these interactions.
We reserve the right to update this Privacy Policy occasionally. Any updates will be posted on this page, so we encourage you to review it periodically to stay informed of any changes.
